Carbetocin reduces the need for additional uterotonics in elective caesarean delivery: A systematic review, meta-analysis and trial sequential analysis of randomised controlled trials
International Journal of Obstetric Anesthesia Jul 02, 2019
Onwochei DN, et al. - Via a systematic review, meta-analysis and trial sequential analysis, researchers analyzed evidence from relevant randomised controlled trials in any language, to compare carbetocin to oxytocin in elective caesarean delivery, focusing on requirement for additional uterotonics and prevention of postpartum haemorrhage. The included randomised controlled trials were identified from Medline, Embase, CINAHL, Web of Science, and the Cochrane databases. They analyzed overall nine studies including 1962 patients. Attenuated requirement for additional uterotonics was found in relation to carbetocin vs oxytocin at elective caesarean delivery. It is essential to standardize bleeding-associated outcomes in studies in order to facilitate synthesis of data in future investigations.
