Cancer risk associated with chronic diseases and disease markers: Prospective cohort study
BMJ Feb 07, 2018
Tu H, et al. - Researchers aimed to evaluate the independent and joint associations of major chronic diseases and disease markers with cancer risk. They further investigated the benefit of physical activity in reducing the cancer risk associated with chronic diseases and disease markers. They found a substantial impact of chronic diseases jointly on cancer risk, which was equally as important as 5 lifestyle factors combined. More than one-fifth of new cancer cases and more than one-third of cancer deaths were attributable to chronic diseases. Physical activity was noted to be correlated with a nearly 40% reduction in the cancer risk associated with chronic diseases.
