Cancer risk after midurethral sling surgery using polypropylene mesh
Obstetrics and Gynecology Mar 01, 2018
Altman D, et al. - Researchers here investigated for a link between the implantation of synthetic polypropylene mesh slings for the treatment of stress urinary incontinence (SUI) and risk of cancer. Other than an inverse association with rectal cancer, findings suggested no significant differences in risk between women who underwent a midurethral sling procedure for SUI and those who did not, for pelvic organ cancers including ovarian, endometrial, cervical, bladder, and urethra. Results thereby indicated no association between the midurethral polypropylene sling surgery for SUI and an increased cancer risk later in life.
