Cancer incidence and mortality patterns in women with breast symptoms in the mammography screening programme: A matched cohort analysis
International Journal of Cancer Dec 07, 2018
Singh D, et al. - Researchers performed this population-based matched cohort study using Finnish National Breast Cancer Screening Program (FNBCSP) data to assess how breast symptoms reported at screening visit are associated with the risk of cancer incidence, breast cancer mortality, and all-cause mortality followed-up over a period of 24 years. Women who reported lump or retraction were noted to be at about two-fold risk for breast cancer incidence, three-fold risk of breast cancer mortality and all-cause mortality, respectively, vs women without respective symptoms. These findings, therefore, emphasized the necessity for improving guidelines for screening and clinical services for women presenting with symptoms.
