Cancer diagnosis as a risk factor of ischemic stroke in atrial fibrillation patients with low stroke risk score
Thrombosis Research May 02, 2018
Atterman A, et al. - Researchers pursued a comparison of the incidence rates (IR) of ischemic stroke (IS) in patients without and with cancer. The study group consisted of patients > 17 years of age with a discharge diagnosis of atrial fibrillation (AF) between July 1, 2005 and December 31, 2013. A rise was reported in the risk of IS owing to cancer diagnosis within 1 year in AF patients with low stroke risk score, especially among subjects < 65 years of age. Such individuals could benefit from anticoagulation treatment in order to lower the risk of IS.
