Can tumor-associated macrophages in ductal carcinoma in situ (DCIS) on biopsy predict invasive carcinoma on excision?
Human Pathology Aug 02, 2018
Hoskoppal D, et al. - The role in forecasting associated invasion on excision played by ductal carcinoma in situ (DCIS)-associated CD163 positive cells on biopsy was assessed in this analysis. For this investigation, researchers performed immunohistochemistry for CD163 on 57 total biopsy cases of DCIS of low, intermediate and high nuclear grade, 27 (47%) of which demonstrated invasion on the subsequent excision specimen. No significant association was found between DCIS grade and CD163 positive cells. Results of this study suggested that CD163 on breast core biopsy did not help in selecting patients who might safely go without excision of DCIS.
