Andrologia Aug 03, 2021
Zhen L, Zhien Z, Shengmin Y, et al. - Researchers here analyzed studies comparing the impact of radical prostatectomy, radiotherapy and active surveillance in patients with low-risk prostate cancer. Such studies were identified from PubMed, Embase and Web of Science. A comprehensive comparison was made by pooling 22 studies with 185,363 participants. In terms of all-cause mortality, the best treatment ranking probability results were offered by brachytherapy, while comparison with other three treatment modalities revealed no significant difference. A similar risk of cancer-specific mortality was noted for brachytherapy and radical prostatectomy, and both demonstrated significant superiority over active surveillance and external beam radiation therapy; nevertheless, all-cause mortality was not significantly different among the aforementioned treatment methods.
