Camera-based respiratory triggering improves image quality of 3D magnetic resonance cholangiopancreatography
European Journal of Radiology Sep 30, 2019
Harder F, Lohöfera FK, Kaissis GA, et al. - Two 3D-MRCP data sets were obtained consequently within one imaging session with traditional respiratory belt- (BRT) or camera- (CRT) based triggering in 28 individuals to assess the performance of a novel camera-based breathing navigation system in respiratory-triggered (CRT) 3D-MR cholangiopancreatography (MRCP) at 3 T MRI. For both acquisitions, the total scan time was 72 s. Significantly superior ratings in image quality, background suppression, blurring and discernibility of pancreaticobiliary tree structures was yielded by CRT in comparison to BRT. Contrast ratios were significantly greater in CRT vs BRT. Line profile slopes through the common bile duct exhibited significantly greater values in CRT vs BRT. A higher SNR, a lower standard deviation of the signal amplitude and less incorrect triggering was explicated by camera-derived respiratory signal curves than the respiratory belt-derived respiratory signal curves. Hence, camera-based respiratory triggering significantly enhances the image quality of 3D-MRCP in comparison with conventional respiratory belt triggering.
