Calorie intake during status epilepticus and outcome: A 5-year cohort study
Critical Care Medicine Jul 18, 2019
Rybitschka A, et al. - In this retrospective observational investigation, researchers focused on the links between daily calorie consumption and consequences in adult status epilepticus patients deriving from a 5-year cohort with a systematic and prospective gathering of nutritional data. Participants included consecutive patients who were treated at the ICUs from 2012 to 2016 for status epilepticus. With regard to nutrition support provided according to the guidelines, participants were monitored. With every percent of days with nutrition, with every 100 kcal, and gram of protein intake per status epilepticus day, the observed relative risks for no return to baseline significantly increased, independent of potential confounders, in multivariable regression analysis. Findings showed an independent association of increased calorie consumption during status epilepticus, with unfavorable outcome.
