Calcium intake is inversely related to risk of obesity among American young adults over a 30-year follow-up
The Journal of Nutrition May 16, 2021
Lu L, Chen C, Zhu J, et al. - Researchers intended to prospectively assess the link between cumulative calcium (Ca) consumption and obesity incidence in American young adults over 30 y of follow-up. From the CARDIA (Coronary Artery Risk Development in Young Adults) study, they selected 4097 of 5115 black and white people aged 18–30 y at baseline in 1985–1986. The evaluation of dietary and supplemental Ca consumption was done via the validated interview-based CARDIA diet history at baseline and exam years 7 and 20. Findings revealed an inverse link between calcium consumption and obesity incidence in this cohort of Americans observed from young adulthood to midlife.
