Calcification score vs arterial stenosis grading: Comparison of two CT-based methods for risk assessment of anastomotic leakage after esophagectomy and gastric pull-up
Therapeutics and Clinical Risk Management Apr 26, 2018
Chang DH, et al. - Using preoperative contrast-enhanced computed tomography scans, researchers compared and scrutinized the calcification score vs stenosis quantification in terms of the prognostic impact on anastomotic leakage in consecutive patients with primary esophageal cancer. Obtained results illustrated that the measurement of celiac trunk (TC) stenosis in preoperative contrast-enhanced computed tomography scans was more reliable compared to the calcification scores in predicting anastomotic leakage. Hence, its use was recommended in the risk assessment of patients undergoing esophagectomy and gastric pull-up.
