C-reactive protein to prealbumin ratio (CPR): A novel inflammatory-nutritional prognostic factor for predicting cancer-specific survival (CSS) and overall survival (OS) in patients with resectable esophageal squamous cell carcinoma

Journal of Oncology Aug 08, 2019

Feng JF, Wang L, Jiang YH, et al. - In this retrospective analysis of 346 resectable esophageal squamous cell carcinoma (ESCC) patients, researchers focused on the predictive value of C-reactive protein to prealbumin ratio (CPR) for prognosis. They corroborated the optimal cut-off value by using the X-tile program. They also assessed the CSS and OS using the Kaplan-Meier methods and Cox regression analyses. Poor CSS and OS were observed in relation to a high level of CPR (> 0.03). CPR was identified as an independent predictor in multivariate analyses. Overall, the utility of CPR, with an optimal cut-off value of 0.03, as a possible predictive factor in resectable ESCC patients was indicated in this first inquiry about the prognostic role of CPR in patients with ESCC.
