C-reactive protein in HPV-positive and HPV-negative oropharyngeal cancer
Otolaryngology-Head & Neck Surgery Sep 22, 2018
Johnson-Obaseki S, et al. - Researchers assessed serum C-reactive protein (CRP) in human papillomavirus (HPV)-positive oropharynx cancer patients vs HPV-negative oropharynx cancer patients to see if CRP levels correlated to overall survival and/or recurrence-free survival. In HPV-positive patients, circulating CRP was higher vs HPV-negative oropharynx cancer. Findings suggested an association between the higher CRP levels and reduced survival among HPV-negative patients. In univariable analysis, they noted a correlation of higher CRP levels with reduced overall survival and recurrence-free survival within the HPV-negative group. The comparisons were not significantly different in multivariate analysis.
