C-reactive protein for predicting cardiovascular and all-cause mortality in type 2 diabetic patients: A meta-analysis
Cytokine Mar 14, 2019
Tian R, et al. – Researchers identified and analyzed relevant studies via a literature search of PubMed and Embase databases (from inception to July 2018) in order to assess the link between elevated baseline C-reactive protein (CRP) levels, cardiovascular mortality, and all-cause mortality in patients with type 2 diabetes. For the highest vs the lowest CRP levels, they estimated pooled risk ratio with 95% CI. Overall 6 prospective cohort studies and 2 post hoc analyses of randomized, controlled trials, including 22,322 type 2 diabetes patients, were analyzed. A greater risk of all-cause mortality and cardiovascular mortality was observed among type 2 diabetes patients with the highest CRP level. Findings highlighted an independent association of elevated baseline serum CRP level with future cardiovascular and all-cause mortality in type 2 diabetes patients.
