Beltempo M, et al. - The diagnostic utility of the C-reactive protein (CRP) and the complete blood count (CBC) for late-onset sepsis was evaluated in very low birth weight infants. Both CBC and CRP ought to be performed to increase sensitivity at initial sepsis evaluation (T0). With only 2 tests [CBC at T0, and CRP at 16–24 h (T24)], a highly negative predictive value was reachable.
