Burden, predictors and temporal relationships of comorbidities in patients with hidradenitis suppurativa: A hospital-based cohort study
Journal of the European Academy of Dermatology and Venereology Sep 21, 2019
Jørgensen AHR, et al. - In patients with hidradenitis suppurativa (HS), researchers analyzed the burden, predictors and temporal associations of comorbidities. A cohort of consecutive HS outpatients acquired information on HS and ten systemic comorbidities (ie, hypertension, dyslipidaemia, diabetes, obesity, inflammatory bowel disease, arthritis, psychiatric disease, psoriasis, obstructive lung disease and polycystic ovary syndrome was obtained through interview and clinical examination) through interview and clinical examination, including blood pressure, BMI and blood samples. Participants in the study were 302 patients. Data reported that approximately 86.6% had at least one comorbidity and the mean number of comorbidities per patient was 2.1. In HS patients, there is a substantial burden, unawareness and undertreatment of several systemic comorbidities. Comorbidities in relation to the onset of HS occur at different time points. This should lead to increased awareness among experts in treatment.
