Budesonide irrigation with olfactory training improves outcomes compared with olfactory training alone in patients with olfactory loss
International Forum of Allergy & Rhinology Jun 23, 2018
Nguyen TP, et al. - Researchers evaluated the impact of adding budesonide irrigation to olfactory training on patients with olfactory loss without any visible sign of sinonasal inflammation. They administered the University of Pennsylvania Smell Identification Test (UPSIT) at the beginning of the study and at 6 months. Olfactory ability was notably improved by adding budesonide irrigation to olfactory training compared with olfactory training plus saline irrigation. Furthermore, the significant predictors of improvement were younger age and shorter duration of olfactory loss.
