Budding and tumor infiltrating lymphocytes – combination of both parameters predicts survival in colorectal cancer and leads to new prognostic subgroups
Human Pathology May 26, 2018
Lang-Schwarz C, et al. - Researchers assessed the combination of budding and tumor infiltrating lymphocytes (TILs) in colorectal cancer (CRC) with regard to prognosis. Using the International Concensus Conference on Tumor Budding (ITBCC)-criteria, they re-examined the Hematoxylin and Eosin (H&E) stained slides of CRC patients, diagnosed between 2005 and 2010. Findings indicated that in order to obtain additional information on tumor behavior and prognosis, paying special attention to tumor morphology remained important even in the age of molecular pathology. Data also suggested that further subdivision of CRC into new prognostic groups is possible by combining different morphological parameters of tumor and tumor environment.
