Bronchopulmonary dysplasia and risk of developmental delay: An EPIPAGE-2 cohort study
Neonatology Dec 12, 2021
Tréluyer L, Jarreau PH, Marchand-Martin L, et al. - Findings demonstrate a strong association of bronchopulmonary dysplasia (BPD) with the risk of developmental delay.
From the French prospective cohort EPIPAGE-2, a total of 2,706 children born before 32 weeks’ gestation were analyzed to determine if the previously shown link between BPD and risk of developmental delay persists.
Of those with available Age & Stages Questionnaires (ASQ) score (a tool to define risk of developmental delay), BPD was present in 196/1,587 and an ASQ score below threshold was evident in 671/1,587.
An association of BPD with an ASQ score below threshold was found (odds ratio 1.52, 95% confidence interval 1.11–2.08; p = 0.008).
