Bronchopulmonary and vascular anomalies are frequent in children with oesophageal atresia
Acta Pediatrica Nov 20, 2019
Lejeune S, Le Mee A, Petyt L, et al. - Among children (aged 0-16) with oesophageal atresia who were born in 1996-2013 and followed up at the French reference centre for rare oesophageal diseases at the University of Lille, researchers studied the contribution of chest CT to the diagnosis of bronchopulmonary and mediastinal vascular anatomical malformations. During follow-up visits, CT scans were available for 48 of the 234 individuals and these were reviewed by a thoracic radiologist. To explore persistent respiratory symptoms, more than two-thirds of the scans were performed. According to this retrospective study, intrathoracic anomalies were frequently linked to oesophageal atresia and contrast-enhanced chest CT scans should be performed on persistent respiratory symptoms patients.
