Breast radiologic complete response is associated with favorable survival outcomes after neoadjuvant chemotherapy in breast cancer
European Journal of Surgical Oncology Sep 20, 2020
Woo J, Ryu JM, Jung SM, et al. - Via retrospectively reviewing breast cancer patients managed with neoadjuvant chemotherapy (NAC) followed by surgery, researchers investigated the precision of radiologic complete response (rCR) in predicting pathologic complete response (pCR). Further, they examined whether rCR is a predictor of favorable survival outcomes. They included 1,017 eligible patients in this study. of these, 287 (28.2%) attained breast pCR, 165 (16.2%) attained breast rCR, 529 (52.0%) had axillary pCR, and 274 (26.9%) attained axillary rCR. Observations suggest a strong predictive value of breast rCR for a favorable recurrence-free survival outcome despite only moderate to fair correlation of rCR with pCR.
