Breast lesions diagnosed by ultrasound-guided core needle biopsy: Can shearwave elastography predict histologic upgrade after surgery or vaccuum assisted excision?
Clinical Imaging Mar 10, 2018
Sohn YM, et al. - A comparative analysis of breast stiffness was conductd based on shear-wave elastography (SWE) quantitative parameters with histopathologic results diagnosed by ultrasound (US)-guided core needle biopsy (CNB) to identify the connection with upgrade rates after surgical excision or follow-up US along with the clinicoradiologic variations between the upgrade and non-upgrade groups. A total of 29 lesions were upgraded for an overall upgrade rate of 12.9% after surgical excision or follow-up US after greater than 1 year. Marked variations were reported between upgrade and non-upgrade groups in age, mammographic category, US category, and sonographic features, including shape, margin, orientation, imaging-histologic correlation, and E ratio. Therefore, it was concluded that the upgrade of breast lesions diagnosed by US-guided CNB could be ascertained via Emean and Emin among quantitative SWE parameters.
