Breast cancer treatment in the elderly: Do treatment plans that do not conform to NCCN recommendations lead to worse outcomes?
American Journal of Surgery Dec 13, 2019
Agborbesong O, et al. - Elderly breast cancer patients whose treatment did or did not conform to NCCN guidelines were compared regarding their outcomes. Researchers retrospectively reviewed breast cancer patients over the age of 70. The analysis revealed that nonconforming women vs conforming women were older (80.5 vs 77.7 years). Study groups exhibited similar local recurrence and metastatic disease rates as well as similar breast cancer-related mortality. These findings suggest that elderly patients do not exhibit poorer outcomes in correlation to treatment nonconformity.
