Brain gray matter correlates of extraversion: A systematic review and meta-analysis of voxel-based morphometry studies
Human Brain Mapping Jun 14, 2019
Lai H, et al. - With a systematic review and meta-analysis approach, researchers sought to gain a comprehensive understanding of brain gray matter (GM) correlates of extraversion. The meta-analysis of whole-brain voxel-based morphometry studies showed that extraversion was stably linked to six core brain regions. Meta-regression analyses also recognized brain regions where gender and age modulated the connections of extraversion with GM volume. Based on three extraversion-related functional systems, the links between extraversion and GM structures were discussed. Overall, the research is the first to show a comprehensive image of extraversion brain GM correlates, and the results may be helpful in selecting targeted brain regions for extraversion interventions.
