Bowel obstruction and ventral hernia after laparoscopic vs open surgery for rectal cancer in a randomized trial (COLOR II)
Annals of Surgery Dec 23, 2018
Petersson J, et al. - Researchers evaluated the risk of bowel obstruction, incisional, and parastomal hernia following laparoscopic vs open surgery for rectal cancer via analyzing 1044 patients included in the international, multicenter, noninferior, open-label, randomized COLOR II trial for five years. The two procedures were not different regarding the risk of bowel obstruction, incisional, or parastomal hernia, indicating that laparoscopic surgery for rectal cancer could be considered as a routine technique.
