Both prevalence and severity of pruritus are associated with age in Chinese patients with skin diseases
Clinical, Cosmetic and Investigational Dermatology Mar 07, 2021
Wang X, Lai Q, Zheng B, et al. - Researchers conducted this cross-sectional study to evaluate the correlation of prevalence and intensity of pruritus with skin disorders, age, and gender in a large cohort of Chinese patients. Using a 0– 10 visual analog scale (VAS), the intensity of pruritus was assessed. Dermatologists were called upon to diagnose skin problems. A total of 1,246 female and 864 male patients completed valid questionnaires. Data reported that acne, eczematous dermatitis, and urticaria patients accounted for 18%, 17%, and 14%, respectively. Patients with either urticaria or eczematous dermatitis showed a higher prevalence of pruritus, whereas individuals with urticaria displayed the highest VAS in comparison to those with other skin disorders. In Chinese patients, the incidence and severity of pruritus varies according to skin disorders, skin type, age, and gender.
