Bone texture analysis for prediction of incident radiographic hip osteoarthritis using machine learning: Data from the Cohort Hip and Cohort Knee (CHECK) study
Osteoarthritis and Cartilage Mar 04, 2019
Hirvasniemi J, et al. - Using data from the Cohort Hip and Cohort Knee (CHECK) study, researchers evaluated the ability of proximal femur and acetabulum radiographic-based bone texture variables to predict radiographic hip osteoarthritis (rHOA) incidents over 10 years. Using the area under the receiver operating characteristic curve (ROC AUC), the performance of prediction models was evaluated. The inclusion of variables of bone texture in the models improved the prediction of rHOA and joint space narrowing (JSN) incident, but not the osteophyte score (OST) incident. For predicting incident rHOA or total hip replacement (THR) over 10 years, bone texture analysis provides additional information.
