Bone mineral density and its serial changes are associated with PTH levels in pseudohypoparathyroidism type 1B patients
Journal of Bone and Mineral Research Sep 13, 2018
Chu X, et al. - Study authors carried out this investigation to analyze bone responsiveness to serum parathyroid hormone (PTH) in pseudohypoparathyroidism 1B (PHP1B) by recruiting 48 PHP1B patients diagnosed via molecular analysis from 2000 to 2016 from the Peking Union Medical College Hospital. It was noted that the bone mineral density (BMD) Z-score for the lumbar spine was higher than that for the femoral neck and the total hip in PHP1B patients. They found that skeletal tissue in PHP1B patients responds to PTH, where heterogenous sensitivities to PTH might exist in different regions of bone. To avoid the negative effects of PTH on the bone, it is reasonable to normalize PTH levels when treating PHP1B.
