Bone metastasis in renal cell carcinoma patients: Risk and prognostic factors and nomograms
Journal of Oncology May 15, 2021
Fan Z, et al. - Researchers used the Surveillance, Epidemiology, and End Results database from 2010 to 2015 in order to construct two nomograms to quantify the risk of bone metastasis (BM) as well as predict the prognosis of renal cell carcinoma (RCC) patients with BM. They established two nomograms, assessed by calibration curve, receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curve, and decision curve analysis (DCA). Gender, tumor size, liver metastasis, lung metastasis, brain metastasis, N stage, T stage, histologic type, and grade, were revealed as BM’s risk factors in RCC patients. Grade, histologic type, N stage, surgery, brain metastasis, and lung metastasis were currently identified as independent prognostic factors for RCC with BM. Good performance for diagnostic and prognostic nomograms was demonstrated by calibration curve, ROC curve, and DCA. Herein, nomograms were successfully established for prediction of BM risk in RCC and the prognosis of RCC with BM, separately. Each patient’s prognosis-based decision making is reinforced using these nomograms, which is critical in improving the prognosis.
