Bone metastases in medullary thyroid carcinoma: High morbidity and poor prognosis associated with osteolytic morphology
Journal of Clinical Endocrinology and Metabolism Feb 29, 2020
Vogel T, Wendler J, Frank-Raue K, et al. - Researchers conducted this retrospective cohort study to characterize the prevalence, the frequency of skeletal related events (SREs), the effect of BM morphology and SREs on prognosis and to evaluate the role of anti-resorptive treatment (ART). Participants in the study were 1,060 MTC patients. For metastatic MTC, bone metastases are common, and most often with an osteolytic morphology and an unfavorable prognosis. Most SREs occur in osteolytic metastases and can be prevented by treatment with anti-resorptive effect.
