Bone histomorphometry in young patients with type 2 diabetes is affected by disease control and chronic complications

Journal of Clinical Endocrinology & Metabolism Jan 26, 2020

Andrade VFC, Chula DC, Sabbag FP, et al. - In this cross-sectional study involving 26 premenopausal women with T2DM, researchers assessed bone histomorphometry (BH) and compare them with the degree of glycemic control and the presence of chronic complications (CCs). This investigation was carried out at a tertiary medical center. Study participants were divided into groups with glycated hemoglobin HbA1c < 7% (good control, GC; n = 10) and HbA1c > 7% (poor control, PC; n = 16), and further subdivided into groups with (n = 9) and without (n = 17) CCs. According to results, HbA1c has been negatively correlated with osteoid thickness and osteoid surface/bone surface. BH has not been linked to pentosidine and insulin-like growth factor-1. BH is affected by disease control and chronic complications in premenopausal patients with T2DM.
