Bone geometry in young male and female football players: A peripheral quantitative computed tomography (pQCT) study
Archives of Osteoporosis May 13, 2018
Lozano-Berges G, et al. - Authors compared the bone geometry in adolescent football players and controls. The mean age of the football players included in this study was 12.7 ± 0.6/12.7 ± 0.6 years. Researchers measured total and trabecular volumetric bone mineral content (Tt.BMC/Tb.BMC), cross-sectional area (Tt.Ar/Tb.Ar), and bone strength index (BSI) at 4% site of the non-dominant tibia by peripheral quantitative computed tomography (pQCT). Better bone geometry and strength values were seen in female football players than controls. On the contrary, in male football players, only bone geometry was higher vs controls.
