Body weight variability and cardiovascular outcomes in patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus
Circulation: Cardiovascular Quality and Outcomes Nov 13, 2018
Bangalore S, et al. - Whether body weight variability is a risk factor for cardiovascular events in subjects with diabetes mellitus was investigated in this study with 6,408 subjects with type 2 diabetes mellitus from 3 clinical trials. From participant baseline and follow-up visits, intraindividual variations in body weight were measured. A composite of coronary heart disease death, myocardial infarction, resuscitated cardiac arrest, coronary revascularization, and unstable or new-onset angina was assessed as primary end point. Findings revealed that, independent of traditional cardiovascular risk factors, higher mortality and a higher rate of cardiovascular events were observed in relation to fluctuation in body weight among subjects with type 2 diabetes mellitus.
