Body size and composition, physical activity and sedentary time in relation to endogenous hormones in premenopausal and postmenopausal women: Findings from the UK Biobank
International Journal of Cancer Apr 30, 2020
Tin Tin S, et al. - Among 20,758 premenopausal and 71,101 postmenopausal women in UK Biobank, researchers examined cross‐sectional links between body size and composition, physical activity and sedentary time and serum concentrations of oestradiol (premenopausal women only), testosterone, sex hormone binding globulin (SHBG) and insulin‐like growth factor‐I. Findings suggested an association of higher BMI with a lower concentration of total oestradiol and a higher concentration of calculated free oestradiol in premenopausal women. Overall, the study confirms strong hormonal and SHBG associations with anthropometric factors in both premenopausal and postmenopausal women. The correlations with sedentary time and physical activity were at most modest.
