VanWagner LB, et al. - The experts embraced this study to examine whether body mass index (BMI) trajectories in young adulthood predicted Nonalcoholic Fatty Liver Disease (NAFLD) in middle age. During young adulthood, trajectories of weight gain were correlated with greater NAFLD prevalence in midlife independent of metabolic covariates and baseline or concurrent BMI. Thus, emphasizing the importance of weight maintenance throughout adulthood as a target for primary NAFLD prevention.
