Body mass index is a predictor of presence of fragmented QRS complexes on electrocardiography independent of underlying cardiovascular status
Journal of Electrocardiology Jun 06, 2018
Eyuboglu M, et al. - Considering the concept that fragmented QRS (fQRS) as a sign of myocardial fibrosis suggests adverse outcomes in various cardiovascular diseases, researchers investigated if high body mass index (BMI) forecasts fQRS on electrocardiography (ECG) independent of underlying cardiovascular status. For this study, 1,530 patients were categorized based on BMI (normal, overweight and obese) and these groups were compared for incidence of fQRS on ECG and investigated for the correlation between BMI and fQRS. Outcomes suggest BMI predicts fQRS independent of underlying cardiovascular status. When using fQRS as a prognostic marker, BMI should be taken into consideration as cardiovascular diseases are.
