Body mass index in relation to prostate-specific antigen-related parameters

BMC Urology Sep 23, 2021

Lin D, Liu T, Chen L, et al. - A positive association of prostate volume (PV) with serum prostate-specific antigen (PSA) concentrations, and inverse links of both body mass index (BMI) and blood volume (BV) with PSA levels, were identified in this large-sample, hospital-based study in China. PSA mass has utility in estimating PSA level without being impacted by obesity in Chinese men.

  • A total of 86,912 Chinese adult men were analyzed to evaluate the link between BMI and parameters of PSA levels.

  • PV, BV, systolic pressure, pulse, fasting blood glucose (FBG) and age were found to be significantly related to PSA concentration, according to univariable linear regression.

  • Multivariate linear regression showed significant links of PV, BV, FBG and age with PSA level.

  • WHR (waist-hip ratio) and BMI were shown to be negatively linked with PSA and PSA density.

  • There was no statistically significant connection between PSA mass and WHR and or BMI.
