Movement Disorders Feb 25, 2020

Jeong SM, Han K, Kim D, et al. - Researchers utilized the database of the Korean National Health Insurance Service, to examine the link of body mass index with the risk of Parkinson Disease (PD) incidence while taking into account diabetes mellitus as a major confounding factor. Participants were 6,800,601 people (aged ≥ 40 years) who were free of PD. The follow-up of 7.3 years was performed, which revealed that a diagnosis of PD was received by 33,443 people. Findings revealed an increased risk of PD incidence in correlation with being underweight and diabetes mellitus, and the influence of being underweight was more prominent in those having diabetes mellitus, with a dose-response link present according to diabetes mellitus status.
