Body mass index at the presentation of premature adrenarche is associated with components of metabolic syndrome at puberty
European Journal of Pediatrics Aug 01, 2018
Kaya G, et al. - Researchers investigated whether there was an association between premature adrenarche (PA) and metabolic syndrome (MeS) parameters at presentation and during puberty. Participants in the study were 47 girls with PA. For the development of insulin resistance in pubertal ages, body mass index (BMI) at adrenarche was an important risk factor and the risk increases with obesity. PA per se might be associated with insulin resistance (IR) was supported by the long-term follow-up of children observations. Data reported that BMI SDS at first evaluation was positively associated with homeostasis model assessment–insulin resistance (HOMA-IR) at puberty. No association was found between dehydroepiandrosterone sulfate (DHEAS) at the first evaluation and HOMA-IR at puberty.
