Body mass index and risk of intestinal metaplasia: A cohort study
Cancer Epidemiology, Biomarkers & Prevention Mar 31, 2019
Kim K, et al. - In this retrospective cohort study including 142,832 Korean adults, researchers assessed the link between body mass index and development of endoscopic intestinal metaplasia. Participants were free of endoscopic intestinal metaplasia and atrophic gastritis, had undergone upper endoscopy at baseline and subsequent visits, and were followed-up for up to 5 years. For incident intestinal metaplasia, they estimated the adjusted HR with 95% CI via parametric proportional hazards model. According to findings, there was an independent association of obesity with increased incidence of endoscopic atrophic gastritis and intestinal metaplasia.
