Seminars in Arthritis and Rheumatism Oct 24, 2017
Clemence J, et al. - A cross-sectional study was done to analyze the relationship between body composition, notably low lean mass, and clinical symptoms (pain, physical function, quality of life [QoL]) in patients with symptomatic hip and/or knee osteoarthritis (OA). Based on these outcomes, QoL and function were more impaired for those with than without low lean mass for patients with OA and normal body mass index (BMI). Conserving muscle mass in people with OA could have functional and antalgic benefits particularly for those with normal BMI.
