Body composition and cardiovascular events in patients with colorectal cancer: A population-based retrospective cohort study
JAMA Oncology May 23, 2019
Brown JC, et al. - Among patients (n=2,839) with stage I to III colorectal cancer (CRC) (1,384 men and 1,455 women), researchers investigated the measures of body composition that are related to major adverse cardiovascular events (MACEs). The body mass index and body composition measurements (eg, adipose tissue compartments and muscle traits) derived from computed tomography at the diagnosis of CRC were the primary exposures. Findings revealed the association of body composition measured by visceral adiposity and muscle radiodensity with MACEs. However, they found no link between body composition measured by body mass index and these events.
