Blue light cystoscopy for the diagnosis of bladder cancer: Results from the US prospective multicenter registry
Urologic Oncology: Seminars and Original Investigations Jun 03, 2018
Daneshmand S, et al. - Given that blue light cystoscopy (BLC) using hexaminolevulinate (HAL/Cysview/Hexvix) has been previously shown to improve detection of non–muscle-invasive bladder cancer (NMIBC), authors assessed the detection of malignant lesions in a heterogeneous group of patients in the real world setting and documented the change in risk category due to upstaging or upgrading. Findings suggested that compared to the white light cystoscopy (WLC) alone, BLC increased detection rates of carcinoma-in-situ and papillary lesions and could change management in 14% of cases. Experts noted that the repeat use of HAL for BLC was safe.
