Journal of Hypertension Sep 07, 2019
Cífková R, Lánská V, Bruthans J, et al. - Given that hypertension represents the most common major independent risk factor for developing coronary heart disease (CHD), researchers undertook this investigation in coronary patients from 24 countries participating in the European Society of Cardiology (ESC) EURoObservational Research Programme (EORP) EUROASPIRE IV survey, to evaluate blood pressure (BP) distribution and factors related to insufficient BP control. A total of 7,653 participants (mean age 62.5 ± 9.6 years) with complete data were analyzed. The BP goal was achieved in 57.6%. Overall, findings revealed insufficient BP control in an extensive proportion of patients with stable CHD. The identified independent predictors of poor BP control included diabetes, increased BMI, older age and coronary artery bypass grafting as the index event.
