Blood groups A and AB are associated with increased gastric cancer risk: Evidence from a large genetic study and systematic review
BMC Cancer Feb 27, 2019
Mao Y, et al. – In previous studies, there have been inconsistent findings with respect to the link between ABO blood groups and the risk of gastric cancer. Therefore, researchers of this current study determined ABO genotype in 4,932 patients with gastric cancer and 6,158 control participants of Chinese descent by using two single nucleotide polymorphisms, systematically reviewing published literature, and performing a meta-analysis of all relevant studies. Overall, they noted an association of the blood group A with gastric cancer risk, as well as a potential link between blood group AB and gastric cancer risk.
