Blood eosinophil thresholds and exacerbations in chronic obstructive pulmonary disease
The Journal of Allergy and Clinical Immunology May 02, 2018
Yun JH, et al. - Blood eosinophil levels associated with exacerbation risk in COPD (chronic obstructive pulmonary disease) were examined. They performed analysis of blood eosinophil counts and exacerbation risk in moderate-to-severe COPD subjects, using two independent studies of former and current smokers with longitudinal data. The COPDGene study was analyzed for discovery (n=1,553) and the ECLIPSE study was analyzed for validation (n=1,895). As per findings, patients with moderate to severe COPD and blood eosinophil count ≥ 300 cells/μL showed an increased risk of exacerbations.
