Pediatric Allergy and Immunology Nov 05, 2020
Mallah N, Rodriguez‐Segade S, Gonzalez‐Barcala FJ, et al. - A meta‐analysis was conducted to ascertain if increased blood eosinophils count predicts asthma exacerbation. Researchers carried out to search MEDLINE, EMBASE, and additional databases, without any language restriction. They computed global pooled Odds Ratios (ORs) and their 95% Confidence Intervals (CIs) and performed predefined subgroup analyses. In this study, 23 observational studies comprising 155,772 participants met the inclusion criteria among 1567 retrieved publications. The findings revealed that blood eosinophil counts ≥ 200 cells/µl is correlated with asthma exacerbation. The results considered that blood eosinophil count is a modifiable factor that could be addressed in asthma management strategies.
