Blood DNA methylation and breast cancer risk: A meta-analysis of four prospective cohort studies
Breast Cancer Research May 24, 2019
Bodelon C, et al. - Via a meta-analysis of four prospective cohort studies, researchers sought to determine the role of blood DNA methylation on breast cancer risk. In this largest study addressing this topic, 1663 incident cases and 1885 controls were included. They removed CpGs that did not pass quality controls in all studies, and thereafter, evaluated links with methylation at 365,145 CpGs present in the HumanMethylation450 (HM450K) Beadchip. According to findings, a link between DNA methylation, measured in the blood before breast cancer diagnosis in predominantly postmenopausal women, and substantial breast cancer risk was unlikely.
