Bisphosphonate drug holiday and fracture risk: A population-based cohort study
Journal of Bone and Mineral Research Mar 16, 2018
Adams AL, et al. - During this study, authors undertook a comparative analysis of the incidence of osteoporosis-related fractures among women who had a bisphosphonate (BP) holiday to those who continued use BPs. No greater risk of osteoporosis-related fragility fracture, hip, or vertebral fractures was revealed among women who undertake a BP holiday from BP of ≥12 months duration for any reason after ≥3 years of BP use compared to ongoing BP users. Data displayed that BP holiday was a viable strategy for balancing the benefits and potential harms associated with long-term BP use.
