Birth with synthetic oxytocin and the risk of being overweight or obese during childhood
Pediatric Obesity Nov 19, 2021
Palanisamy A, Toftlund SA, Giri T, et al. - Researchers examined whether oxytocin exposure during labor is associated with the risk of being overweight or obese during childhood.
Using the Danish Medical Birth Registry, researchers retrieved data of mothers concerning synthetic oxytocin exposure and linked these data with self-reported anthropometric data of their children from the Danish National Birth Cohort (5 months–11 years of age).
Overall, researchers analyzed a large cohort of children who varied in their synthetic oxytocin exposure status at childbirth.
Per outcome analysis, oxytocin exposure did not correlate with the risk of childhood overweight/obesity.
